If a veterinarian does not recommend, I wouldnt do it .. the antibiotic.

Basic information
Metronidazole is an antibiotic commonly used to treat protozoal infections and anaerobic bacterial infections. It also has anti-inflammatory effects in the gut. Metronidazole is bactericidal, killing microorganisms by disruption of bacterial DNA. It is rapidly absorbed from the gastro-intestinal tract is metabolized in the liver and excreted in urine and feces. Because metronidazole is active against anaerobic bacteria, is often used when other antibiotics are used to treat mixed bacterial infections. It is compatible with many other antibiotics such as penicillins, cephalosporins and some aminoglycosides.

Dogs and Cats
Metronidazole is used to treat protozoal infections in cats and dogs, as Giardia, Entamoeba, Trichomonas and Balantidium. Are also used to treat infections caused by anaerobic bacteria. Metronidazole has to treat immune-modulating activity and may be used for inflammatory diseases of the bowel to. Can be used forTreatment of colitis with other antibiotics, periodontal disease (especially cats) caused Clostridium perfringens Enterotoxemia, tetanus, diarrhea of unknown cause pancreatic insufficiency (with intestinal bacterial overgrowth) and complications of the disease, severe liver disease. Corticosteroid metronidazole in the treatment of inflammatory diseases of the bowel, or gum disease may be used (gingivitis / stomatitis) in cats. Current metronidazole gel used to treat skin infections such as feline chin acne.

Metronidazole is usually better tolerated when taken with food and there are a variety of flavors and preparations of drugs produced compounds to treat problems with the bitter taste. Because of the variety of uses for the drug, varying the dose amount, frequency and duration of treatment varies.

Metronidazole is an antibiotic specifically to help diarrhea (against many common bacterial causes of diarrhea) goes through protozoa. The precise mechanism is not fully understood, but present in anaerobes, the unidentified polar compound reduced. It is believed that this connection is for the antimicrobial activity of drugs responsible, due to the interruption of DNA synthesis and nucleic acids in bacteria.
Stress (all situations that you mentioned), can cause pancreatitis in a dog to get it is too vulnerable. Puppies do not usually interfere with pancreatitis. You have said that the age of the puppy, or if vaccine that you remove been tested for parvo and had X-rays to a foreign body? These are the two most common causes of vomiting and diarrhea in young dogs.
